Fuel Your Innovation!

There are funding opportunities available both domestically and internationally, but finding the right one can be a challenge, and the application process for an international fund could require outside help. There are many opportunities to move your research forward with government grants that are available to those working in the industry and Onda is here to assist in any way we can to support your research, including assisting in finding and writing the grants.  Welcome to May’s grant feature introducing you to the Norwegian Seafood Research Fund (FHF).

The Norwegian Seafood Research Fund (FHF) is a state-owned entity under the Norwegian Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries. FHF's primary mission is to enhance the seafood industry's value by funding industry-driven research and development projects that promote sustainability, innovation, and competitiveness.

Who

FHF welcomes applications from a broad spectrum of stakeholders in the seafood sector, including:

·      Research Institutions

·      Industry Associations

·      Private Companies

·      Collaborative Consortia

The fund emphasizes projects that address pressing industry challenges and have the potential for practical application.

How

1. Monitor Open Calls: Unlike other grants that often have generalized criteria that often allows for a project of choice, FHF regularly announces funding opportunities on its official website which outline specific research areas of interest with more specific objectives or outcomes for the research.

2. Prepare Your Proposal: Applications should include:

·      Project Description: Objectives, methodology, and expected outcomes.

·      Budget Breakdown: Detailed financial plan, including co-funding sources.

·      Timeline: Project phases and milestones.

·      Team Information: Qualifications and roles of key personnel.

3. Submission: Proposals must be submitted electronically, adhering to the guidelines specified in the call.

4. Evaluation Process: Applications undergo a thorough review based on relevance, scientific merit, and potential industry impact. Successful projects are expected to share their findings openly to benefit the broader seafood community.

Tips:

1.        Ensure industry relevance: Clearly align your proposal to FHF’s strategic priorities of sustainability, health, market development and innovation in production or processing.

2.        Partner with industry stakeholders: Demonstrating strong industry support or co-funding can boost your credibility and competitiveness.

3.        Focus on applied research and measurable outcomes: Make it make sense for the industry – improving fish health, better yield, lower environmental impact, etc.

 4.        Start early and seek feedback: It’s not an easy application, so give yourself time and don’t be hesitant to seek out help from a consultant knowledgeable on FHF applications. They are worth the investment!
