Going the Extra Mile (and Kilometer) for Every Species
When most people think of Onda, they think of Atlantic salmon. And it’s true—we’ve built a reputation as a leader in salmon research. But if you peek behind the curtain, you’ll find that salmon are just the beginning of the story.
Over the years, our clients have asked us to support a wide variety of species, from sturgeon to barramundi, rainbow trout to tilapia, lobster to oysters, even white leg shrimp. Each request brings a new challenge, and our team takes pride in saying, “Yes, we can make that happen.”
What many don’t realize is just how far we go to bring these species into our facility. Our Operations Teams has become something of an aquatic courier, logging thousands of kilometers by plane and car in search of the species our clients need. One week it might be flying across the country with carefully packed eggs in tow; the next, a long drive through backroads to collect live sturgeon or trout. We’ve had coolers in airports, tanks in truck beds, and plenty of “you went where for what?” type questions.
Why do we do it? Because each species matters. Every fish or shellfish we bring in expands the possibilities for research. It means our clients can test their innovations on the right models, not just the most convenient ones. And it reinforces our philosophy: aquaculture is not one-size-fits-all, and neither is research.
At Onda, we’re more than “the salmon CRO.” We’re the team willing to go the extra mile (get it? Lol!) to deliver the species diversity that drives real progress in aquaculture. So you want oysters? On it! Looking at shrimp? Oi Brazil! Sturgeon? Sure! Lobster? Let’s do it! Hake, tilapia, rainbow trout, barramundi – we’ll get to work for your trial success!
